Wow, okay. Just opened the chapter and I’m already jumpscared by an… “exergasm”, I believe that‘s called
This one’s gonna be interesting.

Edit: after finishing the chapter, that seems to be the entire gimmick.
Is there a name for this? Getting turned on by working out?

Don’t do this, y’all. Overstraining your muscles can very easily lead to serious injuries, and then all the hard work you put into getting stronger is wasted as you have to recover.
If something feels too difficult, don’t be afraid to change something up. Lower your resistance, the number of reps, or just stop entirely if you have to.

Also, bit of a nitpick, but never, never lock your knees on a leg press machine like that. If your legs give out or something otherwise goes wrong, and you come crashing back down, your knees will be obliterated.
Whereas if you keep your legs slightly bent, they’ll just bend all the way and your knees will be completely fine
Seems like the author never watched the pain Olympics...

Friendly reminder. Those who like muscular women are a minority.
You say that like liking muscular women is a bad thing
May not be what you meant, but that’s how it sounds to me
But regardless, that’s a minority I’m proud to be part of

the guy who started the chain couldn't fathom how this manga could be a thing. The one I responded to explained as if it was obvious. So then I gave a friendly reminder.

"It's only a problem if it becomes a problem" means you shouldn't do it. The reason nobody likes knee injuries is that once they happen, you're fucked for life. There is zero reason to lock-out on a leg press machine unless you like gambling with your knees for no reward.
So you gonna take out the whole "forcefully" part I mentioned before?

It doesn't matter what exercise you do, even if it is running, if you do it wrong you are gonna hurt yourself.

One way to do the exercise right is to stop extending your legs on a leg press machine before you're about to lock-out.

Don't lock-out on a leg press machine. Or do, it's your legs.

Do it, I can live well with your crippled ass. Just don't sell your dangerous ideas to other people.
Do some research before you reply to topics. It's always the ones with little to no knowledge that talks the loudest.

Well, you're both kind of right, but your "anything of x is totally fine" can skirt danger. You're right that many kinds of upright squats, inc. trad squat, are generally safe on a fully straightened leg. So specifically here in this chapter, I see no reason to fear extension even on this Rube goldberg's hack nightmare, not even with some hyperextension in one's ROM, as I have. You'd have to majorly fuck up your foot/ankle placement in other ways for considerable risk for the knee.

But positions endangering lockout without full distal extension, like sitting leg press as a common example, can be dangerous. At that point "knees tolerating added resistance" is moot, as the plane of force is aligned with the hinge and your force production is at it's absolute minimum. Don't joint load. Calf raises do nothing to that, especially as they have good exensional engagement, which is generally the opposite of knee risking exercises.

So while it can (with asterisks aplenty) be safe to full extend in sitting or any plantar centric positions, avoiding the final few degrees of ROM with proper ham control, excess momentum and general 1RM banging are just good procedure. It won't ruin gains.
