I feel bad for her. From her point of view it genuinely does just feel like she has an unreasonable family situation slowly turning into something more disturbing that she'd understandably want to escape and lash out against. Even with the monkey being real she was just being humiliated.

i think on top of the uneasy feeling of being held hostage to this kind of nightmarish small god, its eerie that her grades go up when the demands on her time do, too. obviously shes working hard and motivated. But also....
