Wootz Steel, not Damascus; Damascus is a city.

And in Damascus, all kinds of people were able to purchase Wootz Steel in the shape of pots, pans, daggers, swords, helmets, etc... and it was known widely to the point that "Damascus Steel" became the first "brand name."

As a side note...
It was so popular, in fact, that a gang of religious extremists attacked the town and murdered almost everyone, calling it a "Crusade;" after, they only kept house-slaves and worker-slaves alive to take over the steel production and trade.

But I digress.

Anyway, it's like dwarves calling an adjustable spanner as a "Crescent Wrench;" why is there a Crescent Wrench and Tool Company in the fantasy word?

Why is this "waterfall metal," this "River Steel," this Wootz Steel... why is it called after a town that traded it for a while in a completely different universe?
