Well it's a point that was changed in the Manga, but there is some reasoning related to this based on how he died.

If i remember right, in the Novel (don't remember whether it was a WN or LN), MC was working in some smelting shop when his accident occurred and he was summoned by Reiko to the other world. But because of the damages he suffered in the accident, his body needed to be repaired by mana like substance, which also affected his physique and lifespan.
