Oh, so the creepy pervert stalker and swimsuit arc is over now? Frankly if I hadn't read the light novel I would have given up on this manga long ago...

@captain_crunch Yeah I agree this arc really jumps the shark.

@Mojo

MC traveling around is indirectly his main goal right now as
he needs to find someone to take as an apprentice to continue the legacy
, but also to live a good life in general.
Being alone with no one around other then his creations is not good for his sanity and health.
In fact he makes a robot copy of himself to take over running the island and the copy more or less pushes him to get the fuck out and get some friends.

@flannan
@HDMI1

Reinhardt is not just a ordinary noble, but his sister is.

Reinhardt is a visiting diplomat from another country ( not the one they are in now) and is a representative of said country while in foreign nations.
So if he wished he have the authority to speak for his nation on politics while doubling as a royal messenger more or less.

He might not be using that authority right now, but he is far from a normal everyday noble even if you ignore his job, he is also a master craftsman witch in itself is also pretty rare.
That said he is not a royalty, but he works directly under them.

@Stalkerman

A motorboat would have been a far better boat, but it would also be impossible for normal people to reproduce as they dont have the skill to make one currently and would make him stand out more than he already does, something that he tries to avoid if not necessary.
That said, he is going to build one for personal use later on....

Its not that they dont innovate, its just that innovation is slow because of the versatility and how easy magic is to use.
Its also becouse the world itself is really far behind in technological advancement right now then it was in the past because of :
A war with what is basically demons that fucked up the world and made humanity have a technological relaps. ( this is something that gets mentioned in a few arcs from now IIRC )
This is also why there are ruins of the past that contains better technology then humanity can currently produce on their own.
Automatas ( more inteligent/powerfull robots like Reiko ) being one of the more common things that people wish to find from the ruins of the past.

Was bronze really better than steel for the water wheel?

@Stalkerman @flannan They wouldn't look sexy in a swimsuit that way: that was the whole point. Also there was some bullshit about not being able to build an impeller, but then he built a working humanoid and he used it to pedal...
He is able to create fast spinning thing, and he is able to shape metal: craft a fucking screw (Archimedes was able to do that in the third century BC without using magic), attach the screw to the spinny thing and you are done.

@Beregorn - MC's craft magic has limitations. In particular, he had trouble creating a good Achimedes screw, just like he had problems with gears.
Apparently, the ancient magi craft meister MC got his skills from mostly used biomorphic designs, not clockwork designs.
It's not that it's impossible for magic to do that, but that spell needs to be developed first. Otherwise, the screw just would not be symmetric enough.

Edit: about looking sexy in a swimsuit, Arro and Lorelei are the only golems who would look sexy. For all the other boats, it's the pilots who have to do that.

@flannan ah yeah, in that case it is treason then.

@kayriel What makes a noble different is usually that they are backed by a force of arms (not always their own), and a legal one at that. A bandit leader is different in that they are persecuted by the authorities, while the authorities are not. The amassed fortunes also usually makes a difference, but there are richer merchants at times, so it is safer to stick to the statement that they are different because they hold authority (aka violence).
And yes, in many cultures they are expected to keep up a facade of being rich, holding balls they don't actually afford and ending up debt-ridden as a result. That is just foolish though, as if they abandoned that facade they would be able to subsist, if at cost of respect from their peers.
Although if you meant the expectation/facade of being untouchable by their lessers, then some people have gone overboard trying to put fear in them and died in a riot yeah (or because they didnt try hard enough and ppl stopped believing their authority and didn't fear any consequence). Normally the facade is not merely a facade though, as while the commoners might 'easily' band together and take down a lord, the whole system (of aristocracy) is built on nobles banding together: a territory that has an uprising will quickly be beaten down by the amassed armies of surrounding territories. This should dissuade any uprising, as even in the best case where they succeed, they will be brutally put down (alongside any family, to be safe).
So maybe you meant that expectation, the one of being expected to protect other nobles interests in order to protect your own. Nobles has died in campaigns yeah (same holds true for being called to arms to invade or defend, as they are expected to pick up arms).

@kaarme Its for boats in salt water, they arent using stainless steel or anything so bronze would definitely fair better against corrosion. Bronze is also used for metal surfaces that slide across eachother like bearings and bushings so it would make the most sense for whatever the wheel axle turns on to be bronze.

@Versa That boat isn't a thing for permanent use, though. It's built for this single competition. Corrosion is more of a long-term problem.

@Stalkerman : that would have the same problems with why they can not make horse golems.
The control programung is based on the makers understanding of how things work, and they are (currently) limited to human movement. Jin can only make horses because he has seen their movements in slow motion (considering it is the first motion picture it is a noteworthy film everyone should watch)

Plus if I recall they use materials to simulate muscles, and it is not just a joint connecting 2 solid lumps of metal moving be nothing by magic. So they can just make a fan and have it spin by magic.

@flannan : not meeting your "idea" does not mean there is no progress, their world is focused on golem development because they use humanoid golems for a lot of things, not throwing out all their conventions for 1 race is not a lack of development. Heck a motor boat golem is less versatile then a golem that can power the boat, then get off to do tasks on an island. Reinheart's entry is an example of development many of the golems are from engineers who are making improvements in their designs and work. Plus progress tends to be funded by need
the nation Jin first landed in is behind in golems, but more advanced in farming and greenhouses as a result of its needs causing a focus on development

@Kaarme : her boat was made for permanent/long term use, not the competition.

@kingguy3 : bad news
he picks up new permanent companions from this arc on
Reinhardt and Elsa
and eventually the village from the first arc, after he buys it from that nation

@sjmcc13 Oh. I shouldn't have said anything, having forgotten far too much. Though that being said, they should have been more concerned about winning the race, not still using the boat years later.
