Also also, no one is wrong until the author finishes the manga.
Yep, but this is the second time the artist's drawn Kakeru as a middle school girl. Sure looks like they're planning to go that route. I look forward to seeing what happens, no matter what the outcome is!

Since I just discovered this manga a few weeks ago, it's all fresh in my mind. There are hints that Kakeru's really a girl inside from the start. The biggest are he was able to transform even though boys shouldn't be able to and his magical trait generated a cute, frilly girl's outfit when he did so. (The outfits are all determined by the magical trait, Umineko plays no role in them.)

Along the way there's more subtle hints, but those are around from the beginning, so it shouldn't be a surprise.
like I said in another comment, I really didn't remember the earlier chapters cause it's been years since I've read them, I had to go reread them to understand what I got wrong since I got 2 strikes from people, there were hints in the early chapters and the note at the start, I just didn't remember them as much as the funny comedy bits in the manga.

I do remember though where Umineko said that the outfit is determined by what they're inside or something, which explains why he has that since his sister's outfit was supposed to be black (if she was the magical girl); just my bad that I even forget about the stuff in the early chapters, though I just want to see him in a male form than female cause that is how he originally was. :<

(also the fact there is not really any hints in the newer chapters, so I accidentally forgot about them lol)

I love when certain people who read comment sections are surprised that people are discussing the story of [Artistic Media] in a way that relates to themselves.

Say what you want but I'm having fun, are you?

(Also, good job finding happiness for yourself. Good job on that.)
(but on the other side, now I shall pray my other comment doesn't get more strikes
.)

I appreciate you saying that, and yeah, I've found that MangaDex has a surprisingly vocal mass of people who don't like people discussing/joking about Trans topics on Genderbender manga comment threads.

I'm just out here, having the time of my life, speculating. Funny how fast someone can get their knickers in a twist over the smallest things lol

I am honestly surprised those people exist, in all honesty, I haven't seen that at all and damn I thought people do joke about that like before.

At least you are having the time of your life speculating and laughing at that stuff.
(Also, I hope you have fun chatting with other people on the forums. ^^)
(Now I going to go get out of this thread before this ends up being too long... I also need to go play gacha games or something.)

Anime & manga fandom used to be more accepting, but in recent years that type have largely taken over. It's significantly worse in the anime community (for example the comment threads on MAL for Onimai are very toxic), but it's gradually getting worse in the manga community as well.

I don't understand why they even bother watching anime/reading manga if they're just going to attack it. Why not watch/read something you'll actually enjoy and don't watch/read the stuff you know you'll hate?

I think this type of thing is gradually destroying English-speaking anime/manga fandom. Genderbender/trans is a common theme in anime and manga, so they're just making the community too toxic to engage with. I've already stopped doing so with the anime community, since it's much worse even though even though I used to help fansub anime.

Tbf, the first chapter outright tells you in the author note that this is a story of Kakeru finding out/identifying as a girl in "heart and body"(which is a japanese way of saying trans) and the magical aspect doesnt actually affect that(so it doesnt actually matter/is more flavor text than anything)

This wrong though, In original japanese text, it just said this is manga about a boy who gradually becoming a girl. there is no "heart and body" mention even once. Also TSF in japanese manga is basically mean a genre which the character/s somehow changed sex due to reasons (drug, magic, etc.).
This reddit post explain better than me: . So TSF in japanese manga =/= trans.

A big thing about Kakeru saying he's a boy all the time is that it could be denial, as a Trans person myself, I spent my first 16/17 years completely oblivious, then I joined an Anime club at my school and made a lot of close friends.
From 18-21 I self identified as a crossdresser/trap but still didn't feel right about myself, and then I started doing a LOT of self-reflection and meditation when I had it click that the reason I felt uncomfortable in my body was because it didn't fit how I saw myself in my head. So I started HRT the year I turned 25 and haven't been happier. I still have my issues, quirks and qualms, but I actually feel more or less in-line with myself.

Kakeru (and plenty of other characters from other manga I've speculated about in other threads) could just be in a denial stage. Granted, the journey of self discovery doesn't always make you different, it just helps one know who they truly are on the inside.
Whether the author actually has Kakeru stay a boy, or has Kakeru stay a girl, what'll matters the most imo is;

If Kakeru ends up happy or not.

TL;DR:
Just because someone says something doesn't mean that they mean it deep down.
Also, "Still cis tho haha 😅" is a long standing Trans community in-joke.
Also also, no one is wrong until the author finishes the manga.
Your experience sounds very much like mine, (though I was dabbling in cross dressing from about 8, with ptsd from getting caught putting me back in the closet/firmly in denial for a while) I had no idea what transexuals /transgender were until age 16 when trashy daytime tv presented me with "look at this sexy massage lady" massaging cis guy "well, I used to be a man" shocked cis guy leaping across studio

I went thru denial, came out as gay, then sexy trap/femboy /7ch regular (the notorious sexy traps board)
and crossplayer. I finally realised I was happier out and about in girl mode, got hrt etc at 23 and didn't look back.

I'd kill to go back and assure my 12yo CD self that preferring being a girl is fine.

Kakeru's journey is one of self recovery and realisation in a similar vain to a genuine irl trans experience, just with added magic shenanigans for funsies. But agreed, the most important part is Kakeru/Shoko being happy in their own skin at the end, whatever way the mangaka decides to take it.
