thank you for all your hard work! it sometimes feels like a coin flip on if quirky manga like this get official translations

hmmm…here’s a couple manga I’ve seen that I think would fit the requirements and seem quirky or interesting. (I don’t think any of these are licensed, but I might not know how to thoroughly check? I’m just looking through Google mostly.)

Psychic Odagiri Kyouko’s Lies - mystery manga, same author as Liar Game. it’s on hiatus, but there are 5 volumes that aren’t translated. there’s enough chapters up from 2 years ago to get a feel for if it’s interesting to you.

There’s another one about lingerie fitting I wanted to suggest, but I have no idea about the etiquette of how long you’re supposed to wait to see if the previous group is “done”. from what I’ve gathered, it seems complicated.
I’m also curious about what’s going on with this manga, but the single comment on the work makes it seem like chapters WERE up and then got taken down, so probably not that one…

Very sorry about both. It doesn't have to be quirky manga... I just am very over generic isekai... I have no mood for romance and love sappy stuff, and I legitly cannot stand waifu/harem fan service crap... and yeah, please have nice lovely detailed art

that makes sense! fan translation is such hard work, if you don’t do it with something you love then you’d definitely burn out. letting people suggest stuff is already very nice of you, no worries if the series I mention don’t look like a good fit

here’s another one…I think the art is a little more detailed? it’s called Platanus no Mi, about a pediatrician (not to also stereotype you as translating medical-themed manga, lol (plus, I know it’s a little harder if there are real-world terms to get correct))

but yes, don't box me into medical themed manga lol...though i don't really consider dr rex a medical manga.

Kind of obvious now these guys trawl Mangadex or other Free-to-read sites and scoop up the most popular titles on the readers list to get translated, for example how the hell Reiwa no Dara got picked to be translated is beyond me, unless they were just blanket grabbing the popular titles on the list.

The French also licensed this manga at mostly the same time. Might be a deal with the JP editor that concluded with the upcoming anime.

But it wouldn't surprise me if they got some dude calling MangaDex's API to have a dashboard about rising manga. That's the type of shit I would be hired to do if I was working with them. And now that I'm thinking about it, this is clever, you have free KPI about the manga you could licence both in readership and their opinons on the manga with the comment section, since the English side always got a digital version, they have the same base of potential client.

Shit, that might be the reason the western side didn't try to nuke this website as hard as the Koreans did before that German law firm got involved.

May I ask, how long does it takes for Yen Press usually to announce the second volume after the first? If they take a long time and its gonna look like they are going to drag it, then I can take action... or is that dependent on sales? but i think this can be popular since it has ecchi... i think that 'perverted' in the title (They are going with 'Magic Doctor Rex's Perverted Medical Record' as the official English title) gonna attract some gooners lol

I didn't say I'll drop the series immediately. There are plenty of time for me to translate chapter 15-20 before summer arrives. January isn't even over yet...
Just that newer chapters from Japan will always have priority over the older chapters, it's what I've been doing all these months.
I don't get why people need to email me asking such an obvious pushy question.
Also, I'm a solo effort. In case some of you didn't notice, this manga has a lot of pain in the ass redraws. Everything is time and effort and I only got a pair of hands. It's not like I took 10 months to post a chapter. Chapter 14 was just 10 days ago smh...

I'm trying to be as polite as I can because I think the person who emailed me is that dude in the manga's comment section (not the chapters) asking the same question twice. Nobody, including me, bothered to reply him because its such a dum-i mean-silly question because, USE YOUR EYES AND LOOK AT THE POSTING DATES, THAT SHOULD'VE ANSWERED YOUR OWN QUESTION...

My thought exactly, Mangadex has already done thier market research for them, they just have to look at the list and see which one to take.

Similarly how Hasbro doesn't go hard after the china 3rd party Transformers, they frequently use them as market and toy engineering R&D research.
