I work with a guy who REALLY likes Hugo Boss ... where a men's shirt costs ~$100-150 USD. A quick peek into the women's site shows dresses averaging $500 USD (which is close to ¥52,000).

Part of the crazy cost of high-end brands is the super high-tech material used. The way some of the stuff is described is that its tear-proof, stab resistant, very good breathablity, very thermally resistant, and can even take something like a .32 cal round without piercing. And some of the super secret stuff is even nanotech-like in that it can repair itself slightly over time. If that doesn't scream 'OMFGWOWSPENDY' then I don't know what does. And keep in mind that's just what's available to the public at large.
