It's not all that weird for fishermen to carry knives like that, but to use it to stab someone in full view of dozens of witnesses? Sado Island's not that big of a place; everybody probably already knows who he is.

And yeah... all he had to do was run in a slightly different direction.

Well... Probably best to not think too critically about it. Better off assuming the purse snatcher is really, really dumb.
