What kind of sheltered life has the maid live so far to not know about allergies? Especially such a common one as hayfever.

@blablablub I dont think its the hay fever shes confused about but the way the japanese deal with it. In the Uk we just tend to ignore hay fever, we take tablets or sprays and thats about it. The japanese wearing face masks would seem odd almost scary to someone unaware of their methods of dealing with it.

Though how long has our MC been in England for to not know about the japanese using face masks for hay fever but also not knowing how tea bags work? She seems completely lost in japan despite looking japanese with a full Japanese name so i assumed shes either a half whos lived outside of japan most her life or just plain japanese whos lived outside of japan. But to not know something as British as tea bags?

Yep, this moment with tea bag, it's way to strange even for her.
Also, gas mask suits her

Alright love, you definitely can not claim to come from Britain if you muck up making a brew that much!

@leusee Maybe it's supposed to be something like that she served a well off household that only ever used loose leaf tea, and has thus never seen a tea bag somehow?

@leusee

I always thought of the teabag as yet another American destruction and repurposing of ancient cultures*

And it turns out the patent holders were from Milwaukee

*That's pride BTW. Biomass feeds the combine after all
