Man, the april fools brought me back here and this whole drama is so sad. If you hate MTL, fine you are entitled to that, but like show that you can do better by doing your own human TL (which Circle have done). That's all well and good but even if the MTL is poor quality, it helps bring attention to a series which may not have come otherwise. There's no need to put down someone who's trying to MTL a series just because you can do better. In that case, you should just do a better human TL and contact the MTLer if you can and take over from them. Lowkey this has reminded about just how shitty people on the internet can be. I used to like Circle for translating Douki-chan but this really isn't a good look imo. Even mangadex is clowning on you guys like they did with buyVeloMobiles.

Like a comment early on said, being a real translator and seeing a work get translated by mtl, or worse, generative ai, really makes you not want to do it.
I mean, they've already shown their utter lack of care for the hard work of translating by using the slop bot that's been trained on stolen data and books the ai companies got from pirate sites rather than buying them. You're already fighting against that in your real job, why fight them in your unpaid hobby too? You're too busy paying your increasing electric bill from the ai companies refusing to pay the power company because it's "discrimination" to expect them to pay anything for their database guzzling up the power equivalent of a large city right outside your small town in the countryside.
And ofc Mangadex is on the ai side. They're fucking crypto bros, which are always part of the "ai will save the world" cult.

Maybe people are tired of being nice while people everywhere are flippantly use AI for everything while ignoring the fact they're helping it destroy the environment and economy and their own braincells every time they do.

Like I said before, I agree with being anti-AI. When I say MTL, i'm thinking of using something like DeepL or google translate rather than ChatGPT or Gemini. I think people who use that still need to be told a bit more firmly, but not like Bentoki was. I just reread the previous comments and happypurple's approach is much more suitable imo. Supportive to people who are starting out with MTL then transitioning away from it, while also opposing lazy MTLers who don't care about improving. Lowk there's some crazies here on mangadex. buyVeloMobiles comes to mind
