Is the big boob girl going to be the love rival? or more of a close friendship between the two? Either way, I'm happy if she stays, she's cute.
Still no harem tag... She appears to be glorified fan service for the domestic market, since they like them small and timid with giant norks. βeta simp click-bait...

Yeah, the "history" does seem to be overblown. It's not like anyone died
MC needs to get over himself. He is almost self-harming with the level of simpery he is undertaking in the name of making amends.
Personally, I am just here for the sweeeeet romance, and that can be achieved by him just being a nice person. He doesn't need to be a psychotic over-compensator who beats himself up to deserve some love.

Just playing Devil's Advocate (since from my perspective, I'd agree the reaction to the situation is overblown), but you are aware we're talking about the world of sports, right? A massive multifaceted global industry that moves half a trillion dollars or more each year, with tough gateways to professional progression (depending on the sport) and rabid fan bases of all ages and stages of play? The industry where some club fans boo their own teams/players when they underperform, and sometimes outright riot and destroy property when their team loses (or even wins)? An industry that can inspire rabid fandom in the same vein as one's political party or favorite idol?

All this to say, a lot of real-world people treat their sport as Serious Business. The author may be stretching this importance a bit for a middle school soccer tournament, and that's on them for possibly not conveying a realistic weight for this issue to part of their reader base, but it is what it is. Not everyone will consider the causes and results of a plot's development to be logical or believable in the world of the story. At least the circumstances are somewhat unique for a "loner MC" archetype.

I read the LN translations fairly recently (within the last few months) so it's relatively fresh for me, hopefully I can provide a more complete picture of why MC behaves like a villain than some of the other spoilers that people are posting.

Akihito (MC) was a prodigy soccer player - the way the characters in the story talk about him, they make it sound like he was a God of the game, like Messi/Ronaldo/LeBron/Kobe level stuff. He and his best friend Akira had a lot of eyes on them due to their performances and they were both aspiring to go pro.

However, he's also an orphan, and in the weeks leading up to the first match of a tournament that he was playing in, the orphanage that he was staying at was forced to shut down, leaving him potentially forced to move away and drop out of the tournament. He was taken in by a very wealthy and influential businessman, which initially made him happy as it meant he didn't have to move away, but it turned out that the businessman just wanted to use him. One of his clients was the father of a boy on the opposing soccer team and was very emotionally invested in his son's performance, so Akihito's "father" basically bribed this client by using Akihito as a bargaining chip.

So on the day of the match, Akihito was locked in his room. By the time he broke out and made it to the stadium, the game was almost over, and his team were getting thrashed due to a lack of coordination without him. To make matters worse, right as Akihito arrived, his best friend Akira suffered a really bad injury (it would take 6 months to heal) right in front of him because he was trying too hard to compensate for Akihito's absence.

After the match, the other members of the team were demoralised and embarrassed by their performance, and most of them quit the soccer club, blaming Akihito for seemingly quitting the team at such an important time and branding him a "traitor". Because of how many eyes were on Akihito and his team, the whole situation was widely covered and went semi-viral. Not "Twitter trending" levels of viral, but it was the sort of thing where anyone who followed youth soccer knew about it, and you would find stories about it just by Googling his name.

Even though Akihito knew that he was a victim, he didn't think he could do anything about it. He couldn't prove that he'd been confined against his will, and he was worried that if he told everyone what had really happened, his "father" would use his influence to quash the story and turn it against Akihito. Even if that didn't happen, he'd be causing trouble for a man who was now legally responsible for his welfare, which he couldn't afford. Plus, in his head it's still partly his fault - if he had been there for the game, his fellow club members wouldn't have become demoralised and Akira wouldn't have got badly injured. So rather than trying to fight against the false rumours he instead chooses to act like the traitor that he thinks people perceive him to be.

This is the full sum up, if only your comment was earlier...(not your fault) There is also his childhood, which is another can of worms that contributed to his matyrdom mentality. For anyone reading this far, I hope you stay for the ride, because it is pretty satisfying in the end

I agree it sounds like it could be very satisfying but the amount of tip toeing around the topic for the past 20+ chapters feels undeserving. The series introduces itself as a romance, which is good, but the back story that the LN readers have given make the intro to the story out of place. The back story would be an interesting story in its own right but tagged on a teen romance feels like too many cooks for the story. I'll stick with it for now but it feels like it would be a better story if the MC'S back story was the main story and the romance was the background, since the background story seems to have too much pull in the story in the beginning but not much reveal for the amount of chapters its been shown in

Having gotten the context from the spoilers above and in prior threads.... yeah, yeah that would fuck up any kid and really cause a problematic shift in their mentality.

It also suddenly makes a lot more sense why it's such a big "he who must not be named" problem, since Miyu-san is going out of her way to cover for him. If people dig up just the surface level stuff then MC's reputation ends up further in tatters, and people here really need to remember just how vicious highschoolers can be. But if people really start digging in and his "father's" involvement comes to light, suddenly the MC's living arrangements and even ability to attend school are put in jeopardy. So Miyu-san making sure the class doesn't go blabbing about it is perhaps the best damage control she can muster for his sake.

People might read the backstory and think it's dumb or overblown, but you have to remember: he's a highschooler. These are kids who think a single social gaffe or failing to keep up with the latest trends will mean that their lives are over. They're just old enough to understand maturity and responsibility as concepts, but not old enough to have the life experience and perspective needed to fully understand maturity and responsibility in practice. And that's without taking into account that Japanese society puts a very strong emphasis on personal responsibility, to the point that victim blaming is still very much a thing. Y'know, even more than it still is in the West.

So with all that in mind his tendency to paint himself the villain and overbearing need to atone? It makes sense. I'm in agreement with the in-universe assessment that he's blaming himself too much, especially when he was all but the victim of a kidnapping, but I can see the logic behind it. It also makes his overwhelming presence a few chapters back make a lot more sense.

If I were in his position I'd have a lot of repressed rage and resentment that would boil over with sufficient provocation, too. Doesn't matter if you're a senior or not, if someone's looking at you like they're ready to snap your neck then you're gonna be rattled and want out of there ASAP.

That's why a wiseman once said:
don't sit between two women,
They'll either choke you with their booba
Or sandwich you with their thick thigh
Until you get into coma

To add what I remember from other people spoilering. He was stopped from going to the match by his adopted father cause dad had some kinda deal with 3rd party that wanted the other team to win or something. Either way the result was that MCs team lost the match and his friend for whom he is suicidally supportive had some kinda injury/accident. Don't remember if that put brakes on his sport ability or not.

In the long run it still makes little to no sense why MC behaves like that when its not really his fault. Or people spoilering forgot to give important info that would change the outlook of this whole "tragic backstory", which wouldn't be the first time as I got burned by spoilers quite a lot already (Liek spoilers were saying something in WN/LN was explained better and was more tragic - and when I gone to read it - it was either 1 to 1 with manga, or even more lame in WN/LN than in the manga, etc.)
I really appreciate you adding on because I couldn't remember the full story and you definitely filled in the gaps

Arisa is just trying to dig up their relatioship which she caught on but the other two girls next to her cant read the room and bring up nonsense shit. Also shinonome could be a heroine in a different manga. Shy but beautiful and has big two i mean big heart. Completely possible outcome.

This was a pretty wholesome manga, wish there were more fluff manga like this around.

Ugh, I guess we're not escaping the triangle bs... all this drama around him feels so forced.
