Objectively, 5.5 seems like a fair grade. Iruma needed the aide of his soulmates and of Mephisto at the end so he isn't ready for rank 6.

But the Border Patrol interference should almost invalidate the exam, since he wasn't supposed to deal with something on that level
Also his plan really hinged on being lucky that Nova was already a gardener. In the end it's not Iruma that chose Nova as a king, but the many-ears, and that may run counter to the "Rule in my name" thing, as far as Mephisto's concerned. His loyalties lie with his clan, not with Iruma himself. Iruma may have uncovered him, but he didn't make Nova.

We've been told that about 6% pass this test, so it's reasonable that those who survive it, would try again until they achieve a result so spectacular/unqestionable, as to convince the 13 crowns.
Right now, Iruma would probably get Vav, but it wouldn't be unilateral, and more of an allowance by the 13👑 being partial, than actual recognition.

It might also be something like: you passed but you are currently lacking in capabilities, magical or fighting or otherwise.

So back to training
At the very least, prolly not the magical aspect. I mean, bro [rank 5] pierced that rank 8 barrier 💀.

Very refreshing chapter, as well as heart warming. We don't always need plot progression, sometimes a chill breather with some character development is just as satisfying. I had noticed that between the start of the manga and now, we had seen Opera change their treatment of Iruma, I think it was early on already that it was a thing, but this chapter put it all neatly in frame and gave them some amazing dialogue for our cinnamon roll of a protagonist.

We could have simply had Mephisto arrive in the next chapter, but Osamu decided to give us a cliffhanger with that 5.5 at the end lol. Maybe Mephisto will now tell Iruma he has to do a scala 1.5 to finish it off or some other silly thing, even if it definitely has plot relevance.

I don't believe Iruma getting help from anyone is a valid excuse for not going full 6.
Networking was an essential part of his Scala test (literally starting a new kingdom) and by building strong foundations and a tightly knit social circle he was able to work with little impediment.

Tl;dr: Making others work for you is a kind of power / ability itself.

Nop, based on how the world works I believe it really exploded. Everything is dangerous there.
Yep, and Opera would’ve had a good reason to tell him not to touch anything without asking first.

It’s because netherworld ‘deviwave‘ ovens are strong enough to cause liquids (such as milk) to heat so fast they change from a liquid state to a gaseous state instantly causing a pressure explosion.

(I actually kept a straight face while typing that. Believe it or not.)

I think that power you’re talking about is called ‘leadership’. Iruma’s greatest strength has always been his charismatic leadership. Definitely not something for which I would expect him to be downgraded.

Nova wasn't a gardener. Not really in any case. They just happened to find a way to use the many-eared talents in a way nobody had bothered to explore.

It wasn't that Mephisto actually wanted Iruma to have a representative. The way I understood his mission was that the hidden quest was that Iruma was to make a king, but not have the many ears depend on his name to gain independence.

Which Iruma did. By coincidence, which wasn't really what he expected since he was looking for a behind the scenes mastermind and he got a first degree cinnamon roll.

Also the Border Patrol forced Mephisto to take control of the situation, claiming the land and therefore invalidating the whole point of his Scala.

exceptionally predictable .... sad. love the side story and the family bit. But the 5.5... we could tell that would happen before the test even started. would be more surprised if success or failure.

In my country, if they give a grade of 5.5 in a subject, then the grade of 5.5 is rounded up to 6. Maybe the same thing will happen a little later in the manga.

As Mephisto is a master of psychological games, maybe Mephisto is playing with their (Iruma; Azz-kun and Clara's) minds as well as with our minds as readers.

However, I hope that Iruma will be promoted to rank 6 in one of the future chapters.
