What I meant was that, as Mephisto pointed out, the decision on Iruma's promotion should have been entirely with him. Henry circumvented that authority with an official appeal, blatantly breaking the rules he should uphold (and creating a precedent for future Scalas).

By all means Iruma passed the exam and should have been promoted (we all know that Mephisto's explanation given to the kids is just an excuse; it was Iruma's task to give the Many Ears a shelter and instate a king, both of which he did; if anything he surpassed the expected results by also providing them an alternative means to sustain themselves). It is Henry's job (literally) to deal with the aftermath. However that is not what happened, so if Border patrol can appeal the exam decision (after messing up said exam themselves!) then the exam is pointless.
Well, yeah. It's a government initiated exam, so the examinees have to do what the government expects of them. I wouldn't call it pointless tho. Now it depends on the many ears how quickly Iruma can get to his next rank.

If we are talking strictly about the exam then yeah, he did pass and should have gotten the promotion.

HOWEVER, even though Iruma is starting to establish his influence in the upper echelon, it's not very firm yet. The sixth rank is a pretty serious deal and throwing the kid there to be eaten by sharks is just not a good play at the moment. Iruma might have been strengthening himself, but we were just shown the sheer disparity in power between him and Mephisto. Heck, or even between him and Narnia, Baal and a plethora of other demons. Iruma ranking up and the entire deal with scala has ruffled too many feathers to just boil it down to "just let Henry deal with it". We are talking about the possibility of starting an entire war, not because of Iruma, but they can use Iruma as a pretext to escalate the conflict between the radical faction and the one striking for peace.

Not to mention, it might be Henry's job to solve any crisis that could arise, but the Border Patrol is currently undergoing internal strife and you can be a powerful demon, but Henry is not the ONLY powerful demon out there. One wrong move from him and Narnia is going to pull the rug under him and ceise control of Border Patrol.

how is the many ears getting their shit together, and contributing to demon world's economy, is a threat to the demon world's peace to the point where Henry have to intervene?

if this is about the high and mighty not getting their musician or jeweler or whatnot, just hire them with bigger benefits. they are high and mighty, afterall. they can afford it.
I'm just gonna go ahead and cite the US civil war and abolition of slavery here.

Was it ultimately for the best?

Unquestionably yes.

Did it cause massive instability and widespread chaos?

Also yes.

Liberating the Many Ears is an act which, while different in scale, is broadly comparable to the abolitionist movement. Not to mention the demon world is already in an unstable situation, has been since before the series started. And the situation has only been growing more unsteady.

Can't really blame Henri for wanting to play it careful with something which could cause that kind of abrupt societal shift.

A good change is still a change, and not everyone will accept it without question.

Unrelated: I fucking love Ameri and I'm glad to see her again after so long.

This :
"We give you a task you have to do. If you don't do it you'll not rank up. And if you do it... You'll not rank up either because we didn't wanted you to do it.."

I understand why Henry asked for it. And I do think it's for the best.

But they should change how scala works and just valid what the task is asked to the demon beforehand...

Iruma is the grandson of one of the three Greats and heavily involved with the Barbatos and Asmodeus families. If his influence isn't enough, then no one's would be.
If anything he has too much influence already, as pointed out in chapter 367 by Narnia himself. Ironically him having too little actual power in relation to that influence could have been alleviated by raising his rank.

idk. I've been following this series. it's true that Iruma is a honor student, but i think he didnt have leadership achievement great enough to be a nation leader or have combat experience to be a general.
maybe his arrow is basically artillery but so far he only shoot it couple times stationary, and not been into real battles.
and many times he achieves something great was because help of random powerful people, just because he's Iruma
EDIT:
What I trying to say is, it's far too early to decide demon kings replacement, and there's contrast between iruma's and other candidate's overall capability. and I dont really see why powerful ppl hard on manking him the next demon lord. I want to see more from Irumas, something like that

Lol, Ameri using ranking up as a means of running away from finally confessing is such a funny way for her to stay motivated to keep ranking up, and Mephisto really do be moving in, Opera's reaction was priceless xD.

On another note, it's interesting to see that the other grandsons are also attempting to rank up to scala, so the race to be next in line for demon king is on, even if the party one seems to have failed his first attempt.

There are too many (infatuated) demonesses around Iruma for Ameri to be this passive. I enjoy their relationship being built little by little, but she should not take Iruma's attention for granted.

In her defense, she's (equivalent to?) a 16yo girl despite her stature. Adolescents tend to not think strategically or tactically, especially regarding romance. Also, she can be pretty content in that the first thing Iruma did after getting his results was to call her.

Bruh, Henry, tf you doing? If promoting Iruma may cause opposition then the entire Scala is pointless and it would be literally your job to do something about that.
I think Henri is not doing this because promoting Iruma in general would cause opposition and conflict, but rather because of how Narnia is acting and the danger it supposes, he wants to protect Iruma for the time being and rather than invalidating the scala results he is asking Mephisto to postpone them until "the actions of stablishing the many-ears nation give clear results" because then Iruma's promotion can't be as easily objected by Narnia or maybe other high ranking demons. He is rather evading inner conflict among the 13 crowns over Iruma, securing Iruma's promotion even if postponed and protecting Iruma at the same time.

Iruma should be proud of his 5.5 rank.

I want one of Mephisto's badges. Mephisto moves next door so he can have an excuse to b3 around Iruma.

We all can't wait until Iruma and Ameri are the same rank.

See you all in season 4 of the anime!

I could've sworn I read this comment back in the earlier pages... 💀
