Man the translation of "soul mates" really was dragging down this otherwise fantastic chapter. Demons don't have the concept of friendship let alone a "true" or "best" friend, so for him to acknowledge Clara as such was big character and relationship progression for him and Clara. And is not a direct declaration of love to her but rather a very strong foundation to allow those 2 to have a great and lasting relationship. As you read with their interaction is far more equal than what she and him have with Iruma.

I really hope they end up together!

Just goes to show, bickering isn't always a bad thing. As the saying goes, there's a fine line between love and hate. Best friends, lovers, etc. may bicker and fight on a regular basis, but that doesn't mean that they do not care for each other, in fact, it often times means they care a bit too much, though it is true that Asmodeus could due to throw in a few more kind words here and there.

You know, it will be sad when Iruma eventually passes away due to old age since, you know, being human he will pass away way before As and Clara.

It depends on how being in the underworld affects his physiology, it's entirely possible that something will happen to give him an extended lifespan

To me, it glosses over the core of Clara's issue, not having fit anywhere before and fearing to return to that, to focus on the specifics of losing her most precious relationship besides her family - and feels equally as weird as the resolution of the long-eared tribe's issues. A resolution that isn't actually addressing the core of the issue, yet with the presentation showing them as definitive.

At least the core of the writing remains enjoyable.

It didn't really gloss over anything. While it does establish the idea that Clara and Asmodeus wouldn't have become friends without Iruma, Asmodeus pretty clearly acknowledged that Iruma isn't the only reason they remain friends now. They're not just "soulmates" individually with Iruma, and therefore associated with one another on the basis of being friends with him, they're also "soulmates" with each other. Basically, Clara doesn't have to rely on Iruma alone for friendship, because Asmodeus truly is her friend too. The whole thing about searching for Iruma was to show that he's not going to up and abandon her to find Iruma all on his own, it's the both of them together that will make Iruma's return happen
