One things that bothers me is how he is afraid that if he gets discovered he will be deported from the netherworld. Yes, that can happen, but he can also get killed, imprisoned, devoured, dissected and all kinds of stuff. Or (also) his grandpa striped of his position and prestige, Opera and other servants in a dire situation - and it feels like too much is missing if his only worry is the most "harmless" of them all.

I'd also say that might be on purpose. Dying is scary but having to live without his friends would be even worse
