The royal family reminds me a fair bit of Isaac and Ishmael's story in the Tanakh.
In both of them:
-The favored wife was married to the patriarch first, but was childless and convinced him to sire a child with a concubine/servant, only to have a child later on.
-The firstborn child ended up being wicked.
And it's pretty clear the story will end with the younger prince claiming his right to the throne, just as Isaac succeeded Avraham to become a patriach of Bnei Yisrael.

This is really interesting for a josei. Usually we get boys courting the fmc, so it's kinda nice to see the fmc trying to court the love interest.
