This chapter would've been published in late 1997 (the tankoubon was early 1998). Guess spousal abuse was just brushed under the rug back then, huh.

"Yeah you were wrong for hitting her but I guess it's fine if she comes back and realizes she is the one who was wrong!"

uh huh. Yeah. Definitely not mega cringe.

@codetaku - Eh, him slapping her is bad, but I wouldnt really call it spousal abuse. It was a heat of the moment thing. Plus, her coming back and saying that I dont think was supposed to show her as weak imo.

I don't think she actually decided she was wrong. Her repeating his words back to him almost verbatim, sticking out her tongue and Goro's smirk means she was listening in on their conversation and she realized that Shigeno was truly sorry while also acknowledging the emotional reasons he was pushing himself and Shingo so hard.

But I do agree it was resolved too quickly.

Yeah the mangaka really doesn't depict the female characters well. From that time of Momoko's front cover being in a bikini even though she was a kindergarten teacher and mother figure (plus that volume had no beach story anyway so it is completely not related) to Shimizu's skirt being lifted in front of the whole class while being held by 2 boys and yet not getting any apology + all the recurrent jokes making fun of her. There was also Ryouko who is supposed to be this amazing new pitcher, but who just had to be introduced with a panty-shot. Now this?
