I predicted he was a 2nd basemen and turns out he was a Shortstop so I wasn't far off.

Pitcher and catcher are taken so the only options were infielder and outfielder.

Outfielders do have different specialties but aren't nearly different enough among each other to be considered "unique" enough for a baseball manga.

So of course he was going to be an infielder, and you picked the wrong infielder position.
