@firosahoge Yet at the same time he's smart enough to develop unique magic and even alter his own body magically at the cellular level to possess high resistances. If his basic behavior/personality showed suitable signs, I'd consider him a savant, but now he's just a poorly written character, unfortunately.

Call it a hunch but seems like Elk is a good girl in a bad situation. Since experienced adventurers know to plan ahead and for contingencies along with doing things carefully as the rush for a quick buck can easily turn into a rush into an early grave she's got a tight deadline. Not sure if it's one of those "You bumped into me making me drop this extremely expensive vase so now you have to reimburse me for this extravagant amount." scams (completely ignoring fact that an expensive vase would have guards, multiple people carefully carrying it, and someone who looks like a common thug rather than a noble with money to burn wouldn't have an expensive vase,) or she's part of some gang or group that refuses to let her go unless she pays a huge amount of money within x days. Definitely led him to be ambushed, but likely only in it to pay off debt by robbing him and letting him go with turning him into a slave typical bad guy behavior of squeezing out some more money by doing a few additional scummy behavior while deliberately lying to her about only scaring and robbing him.

@okaerin What she means by that is she is so desperate for money she deliberately led him to a spot where her associates (likely guys harassing her for money rather than friends,) would rob him. Don't know why so desperate for money other than she probably has to pay an extravagant amount not expected to be able to pay within a time limit that's going to expire really soon so bad guys will have excuse of doing something nefarious to her to pay off her 'debt'. Like becoming the leader's or gang's hands on toy or being forced to work in a brothel with most or all her money going to them until she dies due to additional debt added on whenever they feel like for cockamamie reasons to bleed her for as much as they can get.

Let me guess, the girl is in desperate need of money because of some debt and if she doesn't pay it she'll get sold into slavery.

MC finds out and can't be mad at her for trying to rob him and offers to settle the debt, but because of her pride she refuses to take the money as a gift and says she'll "serve" the MC until she has paid him back.

Oh jeez, another one of "these" protagonists...

-gullible idiot
-no common sense (shows his big bag of money around like an idiot)
-too soft/forgiving minded (just beats unconscious those who attempt to murder/rob/sell him into slavery)
-naive (trusts random person who he just met, if they just happen to be a girl/cute)

Those alone are just a huge turnoff as a reader, but even among those, he has also one of the biggest flaws there is.. Stupidity (basically comes along w/ the other listed traits... That whole scene w/ the bandits, and the girls spoken words after it.. "Hmm what does she mean by that".. xD Ugh what a joke.. (this authors writing I mean that is)

Also, clearly his mother was an idiot also, since she didn't teach him anything regarding worth of money, and how to become an adventurer, and how NOT to trust strangers, etc..

This seems like a very poorly thought "copy of a copy" type of an isekai.. Which is a shame, since that setting can be an excellent start for a story, if you have the brains to create something a bit more original.
