Just going by this chapter I think that Yagi's going to have a much rougher time in his position than Shima had. He's been around Shima a long time but as he's moved up he's clearly developed an ego which combined with his increasing need to outdo Shima, by the general tropes of this series, is probably going to lead to him being humbled.
Anyway, with another series down I feel like my feelings on this one are more mixed than Section Chief or Division Chief. The good stuff is good but I feel like there's a ton of decompression this time with the writing and it's not quite as focused. I liked the Zeng story and I assume that's not finished yet, Sun has been a good character and Yang is awesome.
But the Zhou Hongmei story is IMO the worst out of all three series. Hirokane's note at the beginning of the previous volume said it came about because an editor wanted him to do a romance story and it reads a lot like a story done because an editor pushed for it and not because the author wanted to actually do it. She just shows up, Shima's instantly smitten for no real reason (despite Yang, the best girl, being right there) and there's supernatural bullshit involved. Mamahuhu is set up as some kind of immense threat with eyes everywhere and then they're dealt with relatively easily right after. The whole thing is just a little too fantastical, even ignoring the (maybe) magic, and kind of jumps around before ending. As a romance story it's certainly not as good as as the one with Shinko from Division Chief.
