The main problem was the fact that for a good number of series, there simply wasn't any translation of them at all outside of Japan or Korea. So the pure fact that they launched a nuke that encroached on these meant that piracy is the only way to read them.

The idea that that little checkmark is going to protect Mangadex from potential legal issues would be almost cute if it weren't basically killing the site. Mangadex is and always has been piracy, whatever posturing the site runners want to claim. Passing the buck works for big social media sites because they legitimately were designed for user-to-user social interaction and are only incidentally used by some users for illegal activities. It won't do jack shit to protect a site that was clearly designed to redistribute copyrighted material.

Well, whatever. It isn't like there aren't a hundred other manga aggregators out there. This was just the best one in a lot of ways.

For those who are complaining about Discord, do you have any better suggestions? I am all ears.

I don't really have any alternative, but just one note. You do know that uploading it on discord is no different than uploading it here on MD, whether it was prior to the update of rules or not? That small checkbox about having copyrights changes nothing, whoever has uploaded manga here was always responsible for what they were doing, and you'll be just as responsible for it while uploading it on discord too.

Granted, the change of rules from the perspective of MD it is meanigless as well. If any publisher would want to bother, they could still take legal actions, unless MD will actively moderate all the content and remove... well, pretty much everything. I'm not really sure what it was done for, but in the end that checkbox is certainly not going to save them.

Nevertheless, even though I don't think it is realistic for any publisher to actually take any action against either MD or uploaders (because it takes far too much resources go after thousands different people from across whole globe), I understand why you may not feel comfortable to keep doing things as you did so far, so even though I will just probably drop any series that are going to be discord-exclusive, thank you very much for all the work you've put so far! I've always enjoyed your work.
