manga where mc goes from average to hero

looking for a story where mc trains and actually tries, going from average to powerful, dont need to be op. dont want mc that is weak af and some lousy powerup, or some mc that is some outcast exiled mc smthing like that. any manga that kind of fits this request is fine, would prefer like magic shit you know?

Maybe arifureta.
He does get a power up sort of but he still has to go through pain and trauma to get powerful. Also he is weak as fuck lame mc but he gets a personality shift so it’s fine
