The only tragedy of Mangastream dying is no more Chi no Wadachi translations. 😭 Also don't Jaiminis still do One Piece? They always had significantly better translations than MS did for it when I used to compare, which I guess is a low bar but still.

F Chi no Wadachi scans. Only thing I read that they did. I doubt other groups won't pop up to pick up the pieces though.

Akatsuki no Yona and Chi no Wadachi are the series i really want to keep reading, Yona especially. Dear scanlators, we are in need of a hero to save us!

@jak Stephen's translations are good actually, the problem is some translations of the previous translator, like Zolo or Teech, can't be changed anymore for consistency reasons and they have to stick with it. And also an official release can't have dozens of translation notes on the panels' borders, which is the one advantage of fan scans.

@Lux

Aside from hosting, I don't think MS was part of the Yona translation process. Impatient just uses them to post. I wish they would come back here.

@arghhhhhh

Some say DMCA, but then others say the members had to deal with IRL stuff more and they couldn't make the time enough.

Haven't seen anything directly from MangaStream themselves but this was posted in Jaimini's Box's Discord:

(Screenshot of the first quote:
https://www.reddit.com/r/manga/comments/eczkbq/jaiminis_stops_scanlating_wsj_series/
or
https://twitter.com/joeybotttt/status/1207773275893325824
)

If you haven't seen it already, Mangastream has decided to stop working on WSJ series overall. The important part is, We think it is a good place for us to end too...

This may come as a surprise, but we have decided to stop working on WSJ series and focus on our Webtoons and other series from different magazines (YJ, WSM and so on).

The idea is to let this turn of the decade change the scanlation scene, hoping services like MangaPlus (MP) can grow and put out more free content. Giving way to a new era of scanlation, fueled by the wills and wants of manga fans that want a free, accessible and legal alternative that supports the mangaka. We hope that this will improve the quality of both the scans and translations that MP offers (only time will tell).

As for the projects effected by this the list is as followed:
- Black Clover
- We Can't Study
- My Hero Academia
- One Piece
- The Promised Neverland
- Jujutsu Kaisen
- Samurai 8
- Dr. Stone
- Dr. Stone Reboot

Since many people in our team love the series we work on, and we want to keep to keep supporting their method of learning, we will be working on some of the series from that list for ourselves only, and will only be sharing with Staff (This is being added so if someone mentions about working on something we don't get shit for it).

Also, this would have marked MS's 10th year! So good luck and farewell to them :catsalutears:

This is a new beginning, and end, to a era of scanlation

We hope you all support MangaPlus! If they aren't doing a good job, email them :catsir:

One of the main reasons we really got into WSJ series was when MS sniped Black Clover from us, which really made it a competition for us. Now that MS has decided to close shop, I guess it's time for us to follow suit.
Honestly now that MP is around, most people don't really have to worry :worryleek:

I suspect MS got hit hard by C&D with JB dropping everything WSJ with fear they will be next because I am not buying any of that.

I mean MS website ceased to exist, this is very strange since if they wanted to quit they would make a announcement and the website would at least keep around for bit and the fact its gone means it was nuked, so either the host nuked the site due to DMCA notices or MS did because they quit and never said anything about it, what is the most likely event?

@jak has to be a DMCA since it was so sudden with no notice and twitter was taken down as well.

@Exile agreed, JB taking down all of their WSJ right after makes it seem a lot more likely.

you can read most jump series on the MangaPlus site, many a lot faster than scanlators were doing them and more that scanlators weren't doing at all, really all this means is waiting until Sunday night to read the most popular jump manga instead of reading them on Friday

the only series this really presents a problem for is d.gray-man, black lagoon, berserk, but those are popular enough that someone should be interested in doing them when they're not on hiatus

Sucks primarily for the non-Jumo stuff Mangastream had like Kenichi which they had the last 100 or so chapters off, the first 24 Jagaaaan chapters, A trail of blood and several others they either had completely or took or gave up.

One site is just wiped off the internet, without any words or annoucements to the community? And another decides to just randomly stop because their poor old rival is gone, and goes on about some pathetic nonsense about "the change of an era", suspiciously sounding like corporate-speak? Yeah no, that's a load of bull.

Seriously, who are they kidding? It's clear legal pressure is involved. Why not be honest and mention it? Either VIZ put down a gag-order (if that is possible), or the scanlation teams are playing silly games.

Well, I hope whatever official thing that comes along at least has decent pace/quality. I started reading online originally because mangas in my country arrive on a 10 year lag. If this is just going to be a repeat of what naver did with webtoons - replacing good quality with a pile of excrement, just so they can make money/steal our data, I'm gonna be quite miffed.

They could always just keep translating and releasing it as torrents under a different name

@Nijn Think its only WSJ stuff seems like Reddit been pressured aswell since they dont host direct link to any other sites than mangaplus.shueisha.co.jp. Which is where they release the official translations aswell on sundays if you're up to date with the releases. They only have the 3 first and latest chapters of their series tho

Drop an F in the chat for another scanlation team. Maybe RedHawk Scans will welcome them to the afterlife.
