Because the author's plan was clearly to make porn of his OC, and everyone else is just a vehicle to watch her being erotic without having to ruin the mystique of her character by letting us hear what she actually thinks. Now the author can insert himself into every scene, and not have to think too hard about what she's like. The "romance" is just something he stuck on- I assume at the behest of his editor.

I don't know how to else reconcile the fact that we got one instance of almost porn at the start, a slow slide to wholesome (With horny bait twitter advertising), then sporadic fanservice and Yuri. Couple that with getting more almost porn when the main story isn't implicated.

the update said from the start this was just a little break/fan service practice for the author. If anything, this is a return to form. We'll go back to store shenanigans next chapter.

No, the chapter was delayed so he could work on "improving his art" for this chapter. That line about "all that training" was just as much the author talking as it was Honami: This is very much not the "break".
I think you actually nailed it and it tracks. This author has NO CLUE where they're taking this story.
Chapter 1 girls finger banging herself in a manga cafe booth. Then it's never addressed again as she becomes an innocent waifu, and then when that's getting settled, suddenly onee-chan and Yuri girl appear, and now we're down to just her hanging out with other people and giving a show to randoms.
Literally no direction aside from "girl sometimes lewd sometimes romance, never both."

The more you people hammer on about this, the more I fucking agree. I can understand her hanging out with Yuri Bait. I'm not a fan, but I can quietly tolerate that he wrote soft Yuri into the series. But the fact that this is a fanservice chapter, in where she gives every passing fuckboy the best view of her ass to date, and some random muscly brother a flash of boobs and nipple... that's some fucking shit right there. The love interest is missing out for no apparent reason right the moment the story takes it up a notch (From the usual editor-influenced chapters).
And it's not like these were established characters or anything;
The random gawkers were LITERALLY just introduced here so they'd gawk at her and grab the girls, and the brother just an excuse to get rid of the gawkers... and flash him. All this (If we're being generous and assuming he's a better writer than he actually is) to pay off the whole "Hand reading" thing where she's been revealed to turn everyone on; which, if we're being realistic instead, was probably just the author telling the audience how sexy his erotic OC is (At least in his mind), and that turning people on is her whole purpose.

I gotta ask: Where are these pick up artists in Japan? Is that a thing over there? Because it's a constant parade in manga and I'm so sick of seeing it just to have some guy come swooping to "save" the girl.

It's probably an exaggeration of a real thing. Probably a guy or two at the beach trying to pick up chicks, and the girls, being Japanese, are just quietly uncomfortable sometimes. Like Chikan: It's totally a thing, but obviously they don't start orgies in every train, bus, or boat they're in.

After the .5 chapter I want to see the main couple go into a love hotel... Have that dominate their relationship for a moment so that they have to figure out how to build a relationship on top of that... But I don't trust this author to be that good at writing people. And he might want to go for a slow burn. Or as some had said before in this thread, the author wanted to make a porn or a borderline H but he has to make a longer story instead and might have to self-censor to please the editors.
As for the girl, it's a weird choice that her eyebrows are in the middle of the forehead. She looks attractive when she's frowning or her eyebrows are out of frame. Her characterization and that of MC seems to be of normal, regular people. There isn't a story getting somewhere apart from when will they date.
Given how little the story has going on, I wouldn't mind if some other couples and ambiguously lewd stuff or social drama, whatever, starts being added. Or if the heroine suddenly starts rants on how she does her stuff and the genre shifts to sex ed. lol.

People seem to hate it when a series genre shifts. I'm okay with things like that. e.g. Watamote's Tomoko going from cringe solo protag to a pseudo-harem plot and beehive cast or Helluva Boss turning its A plot into Stolitz.

Editors or producers sometimes ask for stuff to be rewriteen to be "commercial," and authors often self-censor like that on their own. Mature and pithy stories in VNs have to be filled with anime tropes and fanservice so that they can sell a 90+ (?) hour novel that caters to what editors think it's the weeb audience. Systems can get you a consistent result without being directed by a small group of conspirators. This is hard for some to understand.

It's less about how it's a genre shift (Though that's not helping, considering how random they are), but rather the fact that the shift happened, and the only ones in universe to enjoy it were three random losers and her platonic-but-still-grabby tomboy friend. Like, why set up the two if the only ones getting any are strangers? If they'd just brought him along, we'd shake our heads, chalk it up to the editor being asleep at the wheel this time, and just wait for the author to finish cooming.
