Wait what just happened!? why did ako call Jiu a cheater? why did Mao so easily and with no regrets cheat on Jiu (I mean I guess they aren't together now, but still)? Out to this whole story Jiu is the only one really coming out of it looking the best character wise.
Jiu's existential crisis has to wait while we have to look at Ako's ass i guess. I was not expecting Ako to just force herself on Mao like that, nor for Mao to just take it in stride like that wasn't cheating on Jiu. I continue to hate everything about this manga but can't help but want to see how it continues to get worse.
Every chapter this manages to get worse, like wow. And I was happy when it got picked up again.
Also, this is pointless, but I would prefer if you just release the remaining two chapters at once, even if you take a break. So that I can be done with this for good.
I love how the artist tried to make the sex scene seem like some kind of protection from the lake god that Ako is offering Mao.
It's like they REALLY just wanted to draw them sleeping together at some point but ended up making her so hateable that eventually it became literally impossible without turning it into something positive. That lesbian pseudo-incest (that totally absolutely feels like real incest to Mao) is her protecting Mao. Really. Good guy Ako taking one for the team.
I uh, don't think I'll really be reading this anymore, it's gone sour, I mean, I have nothing wrong with yuri, but this, this ain't right, and to think it used to be one of my favorites...
@Grischa
that's because it was the Mao is being taken advantage in her moment of sadness by Ako, it an't being anti lesbian, the same or worse of a reaction would be felt if Ako was a guy
I'm like the biggest fan of yuri I know... and yeah, I didn't feel this scene either. But to fair, the manga had already essentially gone off the rails long before now. It'll be nice to finish it to have some context of the history of complex storytelling in genderswap manga. I mean in the context of its time, Mao Marimo was one of the few manga to take the topic seriously . That said "Sekainohate de Aimashou!" came out two years before this one and it pulled off its incest love triangle situation competently .
And "Kashimashi ~Girl Meets Girl~" came out six years prior to this one and it has a strikingly similar plot to Mao Marimo but... like... better.
But I'm still glad to have Mao Marimo as part of the gender bender archive.
