To be fair, they couldn't really expect him to get his mind wiped once he revives. It's not as if his personality is different between life and undeath, so why would they expect him to change when he gets revived?
I agree it's predictable, but to say the characters should expect it is just wrong

Well, when Hels resurrection spell explicitly revived him as a thrall, overwriting his original personality as an enemy, it should've stood to reason that his personality would revert back to as he was in life when they brought him back to life, without him being enthralled to Hel
