I already decided he was scum after what Akari told Rei about him, and how she delivered those facts really hammered it home, too. I was already predisposed to not liking him. Then there was the way Hina reacted when she was about to mention him on that train station roof, looking at the closed amusement park recently. I had bad vibes when Rei walked up on a quiet house with an apparent 'guest' last chapter. This is scum. I don't care what kind of background story the author gives to us about him. He will still be pure utter scum. To walk out on a wife after having had 3 children with her ... with her still pregnant with the 3rd, absolutely despicable. Then to go out, find someone else, start a family as if nothing is wrong. Seeing that he's never seen Momo, I barter that he didn't even come to the mother's funeral. Absolute piece of shit. His reasoning for wanting to suddenly be "family" all of a sudden, right when Oji-san is sick and in the hospital, is sus as fuck. He's fucking scheming something. He acts as if Kiriyama is the one butting in, when honestly Kiriyama has probably done much more than he's ever tried to do since he left. He has no right to act as if he's family at this point. Just because you have blood relations doesn't automatically make you their dad. In the words of Yondu from the film, "he may have been your father boy, but he wasn't your daddy."
Actually, in Japan, 18 is considered an adult, last I heard... though it looks like that's a fairly recent change. Before that, it was 20, which is the same as in South Korea. Sounds like it had been 20 since the Meiji era, in the mid-late-1800s.She is the only adult among the sisters and if something happens with gradpa, she will be the only responsible for the guard of the 2 sis (Hina just would be adult by law when she reaches 21, in 6 years yet).
Reminder that different countries have different ages of consent, ages of recognized adulthood, and ages for eligibility for voting.
To be fair, this is a minor quibble, since it's still many years out for Hina, but figured I'd point this out.
