DAMN! That was intense! Who would have thought that it was Nikaidou of all people who brought the infamous Souya to his knees? Dammit, but that plot armor was way too strong. One more move and Souya would have lost! I love this past game! Nikaidou is a beast! I wish that my boy Rei had gotten to face him in the finals; Nikaidou deserved that confrontation.

Even if Souya was protected by plot armor, in a way, I enjoyed the way that this whole game kinda... "descended" him even more to the ground to the rest of the pros we have seen. I always had this image of him that he was quite untouchable, until that one time that Kiriyama spent some time with him and it was revealed that he is deaf, hence why he acts too "perfect" (more like, in an "automatic" matter) in front of the public (not talking about his shogi abilities in any way).

With Nikaidou, his "genius" status is humanized even more, somehow?, and I agree that that game was too intense because they were on the same level of game. Nikaidou must have won, definitely, no doubt and it would have been amazing seeing another game between him and Kiriyama (if he even won his first game in this tournament). Pretty proud of him to the last minute he could endure it.

I find it's quite cruel the way they make zero tolerance for poor health. When that other player drew things out to push Nikaidou over the bring it left a bitter taste... Even here, poor Souya clearly didn't realise and didn't want the game to end.

Ah, but that record that was sent told a different story. Maybe if Nikaido thought of different, yet viable, moves than Soya predicted on that record, yeah, he would have won... But Soya basically said, 'everyone thought this was my end, but this could have happened, too'.

Either way, Soya was really excited for the chance to actually play. I get the feeling his opponents don't often push him like this.

Are we really sure that other player drew it out? I know that's what everyone in the story thought, but I felt like the Silver Wings chapter (chapter 64) made it feel a bit less certain. Junkei even sent Harunobu flowers from his own garden. I suppose that could have been an 'I'm sorry', though. Hell, it probably was an apology, either way, because whether it was intentional or not, he did cause the kid to collapse.
