Yeah, this is a common occurrence in harem manga, as far as I've seen. A lot of harem protagonists tend to just be random, normal guys with girls falling for them with alarming frequency. It's one of the reasons I'm not a big fan of the harem genre. That and the fact that I know that, most of the time, all but one of the girls will lose and it makes me sad.

i love the harem genre, but i hate when they pull the "but i can only choose one girl" move. thats not harem in my eyes

I call BS that the author has suddenly made MC's long-time love for his childhood friend Marika that flimsy that he immediately starts falling for another girl simply because he discovered she likes him. That makes him look like coward who didn't even try to confess before moving on to another girl. Lelouch version of MC would do better.
