It almost feels like we missed a scene or something. Last chapter he inhaled the smoke and hopped up in the tree, seemingly ok and continuing with his inner monologue, next time we see him he's saying "What was that!?". I mean, I know there's obviously nothing missing or anything -- it just seemed off.
@strmshdow84 - I can understand the not wanting to evacuate, I mean just the logistics alone would be a nightmare, not to mention apparently there's no where outside of a city that's safe in any way. Then you add in honor, pride and all the other various cultural norms for this time and place -- just makes it harder. In addition, maybe not all the local demons realize the City God is dead, yet? But I cant see why knowing that he has limited combat ability left he's choosing to engage in such a disadvantageous fight instead of promptly running. If his goal is to meet the Queen alone, then he's already proven his speed is far superior to theirs. To be honest, I don't think he stands a chance against the Queen as he is now, though. Maybe before the Zombie raid he would have been ok.
