Well the 30% are a bit too much, I agree. However it is a protection fee, if their sect is in trouble they’d get support and they also gain from the trade with the southern region. Also they were called to fight for the entire star boundary, not for selfish reasons that only benefit Yang Kai or rather High Heaven Palace (which is indeed pretty righteous).
