Yep, everyone seems to have forgotten about the part of the sect that is recording everything that's happening inside

I'd be really surprised if the MC doesn't join a Dark Sect later on. Yang Kai's got all the mannerisms and psychotic tendencies of their practitioners, he just goes unnoticed since he was never formally recruited...maybe that Elder realized this and is trying to guide him.

I thought it was because of the book that he had this tendencies
Since he is following the trace of the dark disciple who ( to my mind ) was first to get his hands on the book, and then became a disciple powerfull enough to beat his fellow brother disciple and kill him
So yeah, he may have this tendencies, but I would like him to struggle a bit about them, instead of being totally controlled by them ( even if it's the book being )

This protag is pretty interesting. I'm not used to seeing protags in this genre who are oddly sadistic.
Seeing "y'all" in a Chinese story is throwing me off. : /

[ul]Yang Kai can kill during a sparring match with no consequences.
Zhuang says "we weren't sparring, he was just trying to kill me for no reason".
The disciplinary member described the punishments for murder outside of sparring will entail
Su Mu's subordinate states that they were sparring, thus the punishment doesn't apply
Zhuang and the disciplinary member intimidate the crowd who were witness to the sparring so that they will not speak out to confirm that it was a sparring match.[/ul]
To put it another way, if no one is willing to testify that it was a spar, then Yang Kai gets punished as a criminal.
Of course the part that wouldn't make sense is that there are a number of people observing the spars of every disciple who would be able to testify as to what happened anyway, so it's pretty pointless to try intimidating a bunch of low ranked disciples anyway. They would have to intimidate the people recording the matches.
