The "rest of the cast", as you put it, enjoy killing people who never wronged them while using their connections to escape retribution. Yang Kai kills people who tried to kill him and uses his personal strength.

I agree that he's as brutal as the other people, especially when he learns he can kill an enemy. However, in the open when not provoked he can suppress those urges brought on by the skeleton.
