@purplelibraryguy semantic is something that led you to assume the bullying was the cause of the injuries but in reality you don't see it in any panel depicted as such, is vage to say the least. And you can say the girl was protecting her from herself or any outside harm but ultimately it is not shown as that, you could even asum she's crazy and see monsters that harm her (of course that's far off) and you wouldn't be wrong. You don't know because there's not much information about it, that's why I asume my hypotheses with the information given to me by the mangaka and that is compose of dialoge and images. You are free to argue but it won't make you or me totally right, and this is how I interprettate this story.

mc still hasn't been saved yet. adults ripped away from her that only friend who tried to save her as a person. and now adults built an ai to deny her the final relief.
