Having eating Japanese pan in several places during my visits there, I find amusing read something like a legendary craftsman chef. Their peculiar taste of the bread, really can't compete even with regional craft bakeries of other countries.

I enjoyed this chapter ty, for taking it.

@vick_detri - Surrounded by the moat known as "the language barrier", another moat called "the ocean" and yet another moat called "insularity", it is often very difficult for outside information and influences to penetrate into Japan. Particularly in something as important on a day to day basis as food.

That said, I am given to understand that wheat flour is gradually displacing rice in the Japanese diet. To some extent. Especially in the far north of the country.

@rpapo Yeah I agree.
But it's a very weird jump, their kitchen level is wonderful. I have gone from the cheapest restaurant available to hundreds of dollars per service restaurant and it has almost always been a pleasant experience. They also have few decent cakes

But their bread... is just bad, and I have eaten-enjoyed several different varieties of bread on all continents.

Ahh, this reminds me of Yakitate Japan~
Though this one looks mostly comfy. It probably won't escalate to transforming the final boss into a bread monster.

Jumping in on this, I'd like to share my personal account. I think your perspective on Japanese bread might have a lot to do with your personal tastes and backgroubd. It is admittedly a very distinct type of bread from the rest of the world.

I grew up eating asian baking, and for me, nothing can replace that precisely because it's so odd compared to other bread. I've had craft bread from different cultures, and while they're extremely delicious, I get the feeling that the way they're supposed to be consumed is different. They're heartier, often sour or savory. Asian baking is soft, fluffy, chewy, and sweet. In many aspects, what asian baking is trying to replicate aren't the flavors of other countries' bread. What it reminds me the mostly strongly of is steamed bread. Having grown up on that flavor, this sweet bread is my default and other bread is the new experience for me. Asian bread is baked to accommodate for the tastes for asian people and to pair with the food they're already used to eating. I don't think it's so much that it's bad bread as it is nearly a different dish, so trying to compare them is like comparing spaghetti to chow mien.

I don't think this manga is going anywhere close to that route. There is nothing supernatural or sci-fi about this series, as far as I know.

Whoa dude chill out

Also who are you to be giving me the benefit of the doubt? You shouldn't go around making assumptions about people and then thinking you're right. If you don't know, you ask.

I only used that term because living as an Asian person in diaspora, I don't get to actually eat "Japanese" baking. I eat Japanese style baking mixed in with whatever the local culture is and whatever the baker's background is. I know more Asian people of mixed descent than ones who identify with a single nation. I'm only speaking from my own experiences.

Japan as a country has done bad things, sure, but what country doesn't have their issues? Is the comment section of a bread manga really the place to blow up about it? Take your rage somewhere where it'll be useful dude, don't be a keyboard warrior.

Yeah, I'm out, I'm not gonna engage with some weirdo on the internet with aggression issues.

I'm pretty sure you picked a fight with me before over something equally petty. I came here to read manga, not argue with a stranger who doesn't know how to communicate without blowing their top.
