Hi, I'm looking for good manga in the romance genre.
I've read probably more than a hundred works at this point and it seems to me that many modern male main characters have very wilting, subject personalities. Sometimes it is so severe that they could be called masochistic. Frankly, I'm sick of this. They are completely insufferable. There are long discussions to have on the state of Japanese dignity, masculinity and the general malaise the world is suffering in the post war period, but for the moment, I'd just like to read some titles where the MC is and/or supporting characters aren't disgusting weaklings, to the point of offending the reader. They don't have to be macho or overly aggressive, just men unafraid of embodying the masculine principle.
Often the MC will "redeem himself" by displaying his capability for self-assertion after tolerating absurd amounts of abuse from others or even continuing to tolerate such abuse after this momentary spurt, like in Working!!. This is unacceptable. A healthy sexual dynamic requires the man to embrace his essential nature, to develop within himself the stability and strength that allows a woman to rely upon and love him. In this way, masculinity is the necessary precondition to femininity. I understand this is quite a task for some men and so the man being perfect isn't expected, but the acceptance of and embodied aspiration toward this essential, natural truth is fundamental to a good romance. As I said, that will have to suffice for now. So yeah, if people could recommend titles in this thread, that would be really great. Preferably titles in the romance genre excepting harem trash. I've already read Hokuto no Ken, Berserk, Vagabond et cetera, so trying to find good romantic stories is proving to be a challenge, although I did enjoy Otoyomegatari.
Thanks in advance 😊
