To be fair, I believe it's largely because comments on mangadex were disabled for a period of time starting from around the time it received that record number of comments up until about two years ago, when the series had long since finished.

Yeah, this isn’t an isolated case either. Almost every chapter uploaded during this time barely has any comments at all.
