I am asking the same thing. I think it has something to do with the way the chapter progresses.

Start with tension ---> cool off ---> new issues start settling in ---> discover/learn something ---> implications of conflict arise ---> chapter ends, repeat

This means there's no world building, internal monologue, nothing for your brain to stitch, gain context, nor reflect. With every word, the characters are pushing a plot point (which really is not much considering this is just a fetish series) AND moving onto the next phase.
