@srowdy after reading your comment, I think the time period is somewhat off if you said it was during the Qin Dynasty (cause that would be 2000ish years off) and it was clear he serve during the Second World War as a code breaker, and Xin Fu, for his case could have die and was brought to that world. As for the MC, either he die a Konosuba way or like the common Isekai style was drag into that world.

For the LOTR book, I would guess that the skeleton was a US or Western Pilot during the Korean War who was also brought into this world while (a wild guess here) reading that book and since Xin Fu was a code breaker, he should understand English and after reading the book, named the people of that world form what he was able to understand the description from the book. And of course for what happened to said book, depending on the location he was at, the book could have easily rotten away if the place was humid enough.

@goodhunter and @hullmat991 the MC could simply be drag into that world like some old Isekai and time in our (in a sense) world could have slow down while he is at that world. As for the other Human, well same thing, either they were able to die or was drag into that world

Damn. I'm just reading expecting slice-of-life cooking isekai shenanigans, but there's just more and more plot progression coming along.

Now I really think that MC really died and moved to this world. If you read again in the first chapter, the aunty in the cafeteria said that MC runs with a knife (a very sharp knife), and you know what can happen when you run with a really really sharp object.

@ephonk That is what I always assumed and that seems to be the most logical reason for isekai is death or a near death experience

@ TsumomoiHedeka no not him. Lord of the rings is what gave him the idea to call the elves elves

In these kinds of isekai manga, there’s usually something about the “soul” or spirit”.
There’s also a trope of a hard knock on the head, then boom, memories.
MCs also often have different bodies than when they were in Japan.
Conclusion: A near death experience (or death) shakes the soul from the body, and some poor fellow in another world also has this happen to him. The souls from Japan drift into these new bodies and take it, along with its memories on occasion. Could this also mean that fro every isekai, there’s a reverse isekai?

I'm kind of curious how Xu Fu got here now, considering he also was accompanied by the 3000 young men and women that he took with him. Maybe a storm at sea and their ships came with them? Hm.

what I appreciate about this manga is that there is a wide variety of characters being isekaied. you have a Scottish lass and a Japanese boy. you have a world war 2 American (im going to assume he's American, or at least Japanese American) and an ancient alchemist Chinese sorcerer/explorer. I'm honestly more curious what other characters are going to show up or showed up in the past

@TheHiddenToad that would be hilarious to some op isekai where the person thought our tech was monsters eating us and starts destroying the world or some shit

That body might have been a Vietnam war soldier....

Lord of the Rings was published between 1954 and the end of 1955 (if you are counting all the books of the trilogy)

Couldn't have been the Korean war, since it ended in 1953 was before that.
