Why not send another guy through with a safety rope attached, and nothing on him (no knives or swords) he could use to cut the rope? Then as soon as he sees something he wants to investigate, pull him back and force him to tell the town what's up.

Kinda creepy how they only show one angle/perspective of where the door leads to.

Since the exact rules of the door are somewhat unknown what’s stopping someone from simply peeking their head through and looking around a bit?

Also there’s the whole thing with their ropes being cut, if they did it themselves was it because they wanted to stay in the door? Or perhaps they had to make a drastic decision to cut it because of something inside to prevent things from getting worse.

Send him naked, so he doesn't get to close to the others

Of course the kid is still looking for his mom, as long as there is no corpse there's hope, well good for him in the end he will be reunited with his mom, being it good or bad

realistically the situation in this world setting would lead to sacrificial animals being used for pathfinding most of all. But I guess the artist doesn't want to draw hordes of dogs and sheep being snuffed out every chapter

I think whatever it is on the other side of that door, may have such a strong cognitive effect that caused everyone that entered it to stay there, as we have seen they seems to discuss with each other after entering the door, before deciding to "look for something." Also it is quite artistic choice for the author to hide the eyes of those people after they entered the door, i'm sure something off can be seen if we actually can see their eyes.

He'd probably chew through the rope and anything else that tries to stop him.

.... Author really knows how to make a fine man. Rourke is gorgeous. Somehow prettier than Tobia.
