I think you're confusing [MC] with [Hero].
[MC] just means [Main Character] and is the character that serves as the main focus of the series and is tied, one way or another, to the plots thatmoves it forward. A [Hero] is a character who tries to help people, with morals that a reader could/should try to reach. Those two archetypes are not automatically linked together.
That's why a [Hero] can be a [Side Character], aka someone who part of the story but not it's main focus, and why the [MC] can be a [Villain], aka someone who hurt people, with morals that the reader can't/shouldn't try to reach.
Mostbof the time, a story's [MC] will be a [Hero], but sometimes, they'll be a [Villain].
In the end [Villain MC] is pretty much just a tag, like [Fantasy] of [Harem]. If you don't like it, just don't read it.
