Very interesting premise for sure, I can't help but imagine that if this is a one shot, it'd be a bit more compelling for him to have died, being a good person and doing nothing wrong, and strong enough to escape if he wanted to, but willingly being executed for the sake of everyone else, as a true martyr.
Since I assume once he's dead, the backlash of his gift would be lifted, and everyone in the kingdom would all at once be stricken with grief, guilt, and regret, for having killed a true hero who saved and cared for all of them, most of all his former friends, who grew up with him, and knew themselves about his backlash. Then and only then, in death, would his good deeds and heroism be fully recognized, perhaps even being memorialized as a Christ-like figure who lived and died for them
As is though, if this continues, I'd like to see where this goes, it's nice he's got a little golem that doesn't seem to be capable of hating him, and I assume there HAS to be someone out there with a gift that is an "immunity to gifts" who wouldn't hate him either, or perhaps someone whos gift reverses the effects of gifts, so they actually love him to an insane degree
