ough, a much more gut wrenching oneshot than I was expecting, but an incredibly sweet one at the same time. Yuriko seemed like a wonderful grandparent to have, the nail painting moments were probably my favorite of the shared memories

godspeed to Mee-chan on finding the shape their life will take as the years pile on too 🙏

You know whenever I read stories like this I can’t not lament that this site doesn’t have like a transgender or queer tag or something. Stories that are obviously queer/gender-focused like this end up thrown under the “crossdressing” umbrella and it feels awful. Yeah man Hanayome wa Motodanshi is a crossdressing manga!

Holy shit, I wasn't ready for this, I thought it was just going to be some lighthearted fun crossdressing manga, and instead I ended up crying :nyoron:

I have sort of a personal relationship with dementia as well since I used to work at a dementia ward, and I've definitely seen grandchildren getting confused with like a brother or sister. I've also been confused as being a close relative as well. Haha, I distinctly remember one time me and this old frail lady was preparing all day to go out to the big rooster cooking party. She was obsessing over it all day. We got dressed up and glammed up, had some punsch and headed out. Then, in festive spirits, we went out and went one round around the block. By the time we made it back around she was had forgotten why we went out, but after that when we got back in, she was so happy all day.

There was no rooster cooking party. But in my mind, we really did go to that party together. Such a sweet, bubbly and lovely lady. Rest in peace

Or Genderswap, yeah. It's very annoying.

Wow, this was really good, and clear out of the blue too. Finding gems like these are what one shots are all about. Very cute story but with enough layered complexity that it feels fulfilling :glee:

The art, while not a standout, does a great job of providing a sturdy foundation for the story which I think helps make the dementia reveal even more dramatic, as it all feels real and linear throughout.

100% recommend and glad this is one of my first reads of the NY:win:

They've said when asked about it that there aren't enough items that are specifically about transition/queerness to have a category for it. The smallest category when they mentioned this was the VR tag, with around fifty items. There's gotta be more than fifty manga explicitly about transition, but they haven't been collected into a cleanly visible pool. Last time they said they wanted the MDlist tool to be used to construct a collection and present a case, or something along those lines. MDlists can't be made public though? You have to use them in conjunction with the forums, so it's kind of an odd system.

Thing is, I don't want to gatekeep good queer manga, but I also don't like "debating" chuds about how to vibe out a trans woman from the "femboy" when I'm trying to have a good time either. I almost don't want to have it tagged as "trans" or "queer" because then the number of morons will jump tenfold and we'll have to have drawn-out debates about whether a manga is trans or not every single time the tag gets put on anything. Because people love pretty/cute trans women in media, as long as you don't actually call them trans women.

really touching story. I realized what the twist probably would be from the beginning and it was really emotional how it all played out. Mee-chan was immortal not because of her own age, but because grandma's own age often changed while meeting her ;-;

I second everyone else in thinking its far past time we had a transgender tag, but honestly the mangadex mods don't really give a shit.

That is a really good way to show alzheimer. Memories blurring, both mixing and disappearing without clear borders.

On the other side, I love how Yuri (and in extension, the mangaka) treated her grandson. Not as someone to be labelled in a narrow minded label, she just accepted that a boy can and should be allowed to be cute too without forcing him to be a girl.

i want a gender tag
i wouldn't be about just trans people, but any story that has a consistent focus on gender themes.
