I believe it was actually ベタベタ (SFX for something adhering to something else) instead of better.
And according to my Jp dictionary app, へばりつく means "to cling to, to stick to, to lie flat (e.g. on the ground)". So yeah, Omuro didn't wanna move from the circle.
