To be fair, Chrome's ram usage is lower nowadays. More like 4, honestly, depending on the amount of tabs you have open, content playing and stuff. Almost any browser's ram usage can skyrocket if you open lots of media-heavy content in multiple browsers, honestly. Over time, most browsers tend to start bloating until they go too far, then spend a few updates slimming down. Then, the cycle starts all over again.
Also, aside from Safari and Firefox, every browser's basically a Chromium derivative nowadays anyhow. It's basically a monopoly.
