High schooler isekai sounds silly, but with some thinking it's reasonable for the summoners.

You don't want someone smart or with authority, like a scientist or military figure, because they would be aggressive and knowledgeable enough to establish their own clique and try and create an organization that could potentially be at odds with existing ones, and also have the ability to leverage the world's magic, population, etc. against you.

You want some pretty face with a hero title to slap onto, without enough life experience to question the whos, whats, wheres, and whys. That way you can keep them under your thumb.

Of course, in most isekais both the protagonists and the villains like to pass around the idiot ball, so it's not really important anyways.

Ironically that plot is quite rare. Most of the the hero summoned plots to defeatthe demon king are where the humans are the bad guys. Defeating the demon king is mostly a game plot. All manga and anime just parody it but never actaully use it.

If you really want an original plot, it would be ugly hikimori neets with no interaction with opposite gender suddently building harems. No one can see that coming.

Just like shoujo manga, you should not use a generic isekai light novel as your life guidance

Too accurate.

Ten bucks says the story degenerates as it goes on, turning more into wish-fulfillment, harem-collection and boob gags

"They are the greatest Heros! The sacred novels that keep appearing through portals says" is how I first red that panel, thinking she switched into speaking like Yoda for some reason. Then realized I just read it backwards.

Yep, the pattern that isekai manga follow is often very formulaic and common. At least summon someone from a nation-state other than Japan, summon an actual trained professional warrior, or even just a student who does very well with martial arts or combat classes.

[*] If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
[*] The principle of "write what you know" naturally leads to writers more often than not set their stories in their home countries when the premise doesn't require setting it somewhere else.
[*] Keep in mind what the target demographic of isekai genre stories. If it's not high school teens, it's adults who are fed up with the meat grinder that is wageslavery and lounge for the only time in their lives that they consider their "golden years", i.e. their high school years (yes, that's despite such "wonderful" aspects to it as familial and peer pressure to get perfect scores, bullying, and other things); I'm not bullshitting you; I myself was shocked and dismayed to discover this tragic fact. With that in mind, depicting an "actual trained professional warrior" as the MC would almost certainly break the ability of the reader to relate and self-insert into the character; of course, there are some isekai stories that actually make a point of using characters who are already badass, banking instead on the wish fulfillment angle (i.e. some readers want to fantasize about having lived different, un-average lives before being sent to a fantasy world to serve as a hero).
[*] In accordance with the immediately above point, "has experience with martial arts and/or combat" doesn't really mesh well with the "average high schooler" concept that writers turn to in order to enhance the odds of readers being able to relate with and self-insert themselves into the MC.

@TsuDohNihm: ... That's from that one comic by Graphite Knight / Matsu-sensei, right?

AT the same time in the demon king's castle:
Demon king *using magic to spy on the human leaders*
Demon king: "Oh no! They plan to summon an innocent highschool student from a small island country who will become the greatest of all heroes to defeat me!"
Demon king *panics*: "What should I do now?"
*Flash of inspiration*
Demon king: "Yes! I shall summon a hishschool student from a small island country, too, to become the dark knight that protects me from the hero of the humans! Just like in this sacred novel "Ankoku Kishi Monogatari ~Yuusha wo Taosu Tameni Maou ni Shoukansaremashita~" that randomly dropped from a dimensional gate."
