@eng1 Someone as smart as her should know the clans objective is never what they lead you to believe and if its even close to what they told you, the way they achieve it isn't going to be as nice as a picture as they painted in the beginning. Large organizations are just like especially for someone at the bottom. They might of answered her questions but who was there for her? Who "risked" his life twice for them? OWNING PETS you say. Would you risk your life just to keep pets around? and even if that was the case who wouldn't rather being treated like MC treats his group than to how most large organizations treat their pieces? I went on a tangent but this is my point; So you're saying its okay or she's justified to throw all that good will away just because she didn't get her answer?

@Laughing_Snake look, we're ok as long as she doesn't come back begging for help or MC forgives her if she dares to cross his/his allies path.

@zekkendo
gonna be real with ya, your point becomes moot if she turns out to be his wife/girlfriend in the future as speculated from the novel.

@basiceden She is aware of that, but you see, those who wear thier motives on thier sleaves are easier to deal with than those who dont. She knows her class is special and being given a commander position she can move up the ranks in a top clan. She doesnt owe anything to them and can operate logically on give or take. And there is the posibility of going back to earth too.

The MC didnt even lie about his motives, he simply kept to himself. Which brings the question of for what purpose is he doing what he is doing? And considering his confidence, there is a possibility that the mcs life was never at risk but he was simply playing out scenarios to deceive them into thinking so.

But worst of all, he didnt even ask! You say throw away good will but she didnt betray them. And she was even willing to open spots for all of them. MC said no, and said he might make his guild but didnt even try inviting her. Is she suppose to beg the MC to let her in?

She doesnt even know what his motive is, maybe he doesnt want to go back to earth and wants of rule as an emperor. Then thier goals doesnt align and she would be fighting against the top clans dor things she doesnt even care about.

Sorry, the MC is the one at fault here. He should have just told her that sure I can do more but i dont want you guys to over rely on me cause i cant always be there. so i am helping you grow. He doesnt need to tell them everything, just enough to show they are comrades and they do mean something to him. That he needs them.

But MC didnt even bother asking her, so she took it as he didnt need her.

I think you are to used to mnga where harem members blindly throw everything away and follow the mc without any questions asked. Her behaviour is normal for anyone with a head on thier sholders.

I'm not really sure what you mean here. Why would
Han Byul being his wife later in the story
make any of my points moot?
Trust can be built over time, relationships between people can change.
But a mutual trust between them doesn't exist at this moment of the story.

if it ends being the case the dude HAS TO go out of his way to save her. All of this will be for naught because the trust stuff will be bypassed by the knight in shining armor saving her from the baddies as per usual.

@eng1 You know what i'll give you that, The mc never really shown that he needed them. Truth is he probably doesn't, with or without them i'm sure a returner will be able to come out on top with other people, It doesn't have to be them. However to say that people who chose to follow someone is because they are blindly doing it, is insane. In harem mangas maybe but in mangas like this, where the mc and side characters are thrusted into a situation like this where they are lead safely to the end while following the MC to then say they would be blind to continue to follow him, i don't get that. Someone leads you through a life or death situation with a 100% clear rate like theirs and you chose to follow someone else, in your eyes that's not betrayal? At the very least its not selfishness?

Sure she offered to try to get them to join in the clan but what does that really prove, To me it just looks like she felt bad in leaving the them and that was her way of trying to relive some of that guilt . Also you said she doesn't offer anything to them but truth is she does. The mc saved her life, would she of survived the trial without him? Now you read the LN so you obviously know more details than me but from the looks of it or at least from what the MC can remember she wouldn't of and the last part of the trail they all would of died or at least 1 of them would of lived by sacrificing 4 people.

At the end of the day, everyone looks at things differently. to me loyalty will always triumph over rationality (or selfishness) and how i define loyalty and rationality is just different from you.

I guess they're cutting out the novel's r-18 stuff then. The MC wants his group to trust him before he dragged them into his plans. Miss Han Byul wanted to know what his plans are before she could trust them. She wants to stick with the group but rationally can't because it seems too risky unlike the safe bet, Golden Lion. It be what it be.

@basiceden Are you saying this after reading the latest chapters?

where they admit to blindly following the mc and him petting the guy like a dog

The trial requires that you either get to the way point or survive 7 days. Surviving 7 days is also an option.

And I agree that our definition of loyalty is different. I dont see owing someone as same thing as being their pet or slave, nor that you must follow them. I see it as you should return the favor. But that doesnt always mean following the same path. From her perspective, he doesnt need her since he never asked. If she succeeds in the biggest guild, then she can pay off the favor as she gains the ability and resources to.

I did see that and maybe thats the situation for them, However leading someone and people following isn't being a slave or pet. You have your freedom but chose to follow someone. There are plenty of advisors and intelligent people that chose to follow someone else. would you consider the people who followed Jesus as slaves or pets? (Not really religious just couldn't think of a leader who wasn't a king who had wise people follow him)

I don't think owing someone is a reason to follow them unless it meets this situation where you followed them and they lead you to safety at the risk of their own life to then leave them for a "Safer" bigger group. If she had left just to ride this out solo or never distanced herself at the beginning because she knew she was going to leave, maybe i wouldn't see this as betrayal.

Yea she could pay off the favor, would she though? Don't forget that shes a selfish person or a "rational" person and wouldn't pay off the favor of a life if there was a detriment to her own. My guess using clan funds would never be possible for her at least right now, her rank and rep in her clan is to small. So in a few years maybe she could do something but if MC were to build his guild like he said i'm sure if he would need help it would be a clan crises. Someone like her risking her position in a clan or her life to save someone else seems far fetched. (going based off her personality rn)

blindly following is, your religous example isnt helping... cults also work like that.

She distanced herself from him because he refused to lead and she didnt want that kind of relations where she is led around by the nose. As for why she distanced herself from others, that was due to her guilt. it was explained in the novel when she argued against going back to save the mc, she kind of fell out with the group. She admited she was in the wrong on that.

You are conflating selfish and rational and confusing over ambitious with rational. A rational person has no problem doing things that might cause them harm. As long as it doesnt completely destroy them. You make it sound like she cares about being high ranked, she doesnt. A rational person does have a problem with doing things with low or 0 chance of success. Most business connections operate on repaying favors, its totally rational.

She's quite smart for what she knows. Keep in mind, she doesn't know our mc knows everything that's going to happen. She just knows he's versuspicious's. It's actually nice having a character who his overly weary of an mc like this for once. The clan is also suspicious, but I think she has enough perception to know what The clan is all about. she's going with the shady she understands over what is an unknown factor.

Even then, if our mc just straight out told her to trust him even though he does have secrets, she probably would have.
