Then again you could probably snag a cheap PC system with some used parts. I'd recommend searching for people swapping their Ryzen 3000 CPUs and probably some sort of nvidia 2000 series or 1080. I'd recommend an AMD 500 series board for upgradability reasons. If you do it right, you can get in a upgrade cycle where you keep track of the release cycle and pawn your card/CPU right before the announcement (keep some spares or use another machine while you're upgrading) then you can just about upgrade each gen for a really cheep net cost.
You could also snag cheap last gen cards/cpus after announcements since people who just "need the latest and greatest" will want to simply get rid of their old card, but don't care about getting their value out of it.
pc gaming is cheaper than console if you do it right. Though it's a bit involved.
