Perhaps he's also a photography enthusiast. There are still people in our time using old film cameras to take B&W photos, to develop them by themselves. In fact there are people who mess with even more historical camera types. That's just how it is. The captain could be a man of many interests.

Yeah but it's probably a super high tech DSLR or it's part of that captain's hobby. Sorta like you can read books off a tablet but Captain Picard still preferred the old paper books.

making krishna is like making expensive newtype only gundam for normal person.
plus (i am pretty sure they explain it during the dwarf engineer plot) krishnna engine is a mysterious that no one understand.
said engine is why MC ship have battle ship level of attack power.

the only reason that ship is scary casue hiro himself is amuro level of pilot

dude also a very powerful psychic too, when he awaken his power, hiro can go toe to toe againt power armor without one. againt army if he equip one. so add newtype esq power to the above statement too.

normal pilot will just be pilot a very tough hard to control. with higher than average fire power ship, that is also a larger target.
